Tiger Snake Moray Eel

More Eels, Please!

This past weekend while we were out swimming I found a new eel that I hadn’t seen before  (far right photo above). It was a Tiger Snake Moray, according to my favorite John P. Hoover fish ID book. They are fairly uncommon to find during the day so we lucked out!

Whenever I find a new fish or creature I’m not familiar with I look for as much info as I can find to confirm what it is and learn more about it. Mostly with eels I want to know how bite-y they are. (The Undulated Moray, 2nd from the left above, can be aggressive, I try not to get too close.)

Over the last couple years I have found myself fascinated with eels. I've always been terrified of snakes, eels don't bother me at all for some reason. I will get as close as they let me. Maybe I'm just a sea witch looking for her Flotsam and Jetsam 🤣
