Turtles and Rays and a Shark, Oh My!
Last Saturday is still on my mind almost a week later! We went out to one of our regular swim spots to see if we could find some sharks. (Finding sharks is always the dream, not always the reality.) During our swim we found a fish that was new to us, Ornate Wrasse. Super cute, not super easy to get a pic of in shallow, rough water. We also found our first green sea turtle of the day, it was small and skittish.
As we continued our swim I saw a juvenile Whitetip Reef Shark chase a few fish out of from under it's rock ledge. As we dove down to get a closer look it was resting peacefully in the sand. We moved on so we didn't want to interrupt nap time.
Our next stop was to watch a couple Spotted Eagle Rays swim around us. They circled us several times. Each time we thought they were leaving, they came right back. I LOVE Eagle Rays, I could have watched them all day long. When we were finally ready to start our long swim back to the beach, a large green sea turtle swam right past the rays and directly to my husband and me. It was incredible. These are the moments that are so special to me.
We ended up swimming a lot farther than we had intended but it was so worth it. Can't wait to see what we find on our next swimming adventure.
